About Pyrite

Pyrite (noun): Iron sulfide mineral (FeS₂). Pale brass-yellow, metallic luster. Physically indistinguishable from gold to the untrained eye.

Common name: Fool's Gold.

We chose the name deliberately

For centuries, prospectors were deceived by pyrite. The surface was convincing. The difference only became apparent under analysis.

Hedge fund due diligence has the same problem.

Performance records look compelling. Strategies are described with precision. And yet the genuine, differentiated, risk-adjusted return is difficult to isolate. Most allocators work with the same information as everyone else - the same tearsheets, the same cap intro events, the same qualitative filters. The best-marketed strategy is not always the best strategy.
